Keeping fit and healthy from head to toe – Voice, throat, nose, mouth and neck

Today this body region is especially susceptible to exercise and looking after it. The highlighted zone today are the voice, nose, mouth, neck, and throat.

What to do when you lose your voice?

This region is particularly important if you are a public speaker, teacher, presenter, or anybody else working with their voice. Here is my grandmother’s top tip for regaining your voice or doing this as a prevention if you have a presentation coming up.

Gargle with lukewarm sage tea: (2 bags for a cup of tea, cool to as warm as you can tolerate) can help to keep your voice in good shape. It is important that you don’t swallow the warm sage tea, but spit it out. This will get rid of mucus and toxins and bring back the voice if you are hoarse or lost your voice altogether. It can also be used as a preventative measure if you have a big public speaking appearance or you are a teacher, presenter, salesperson, etc.

Oil pulling to prevent disease and keep your mouth healthy

For this method take a tablespoon full of coconut oil or any other good quality oil and keep it in your mouth for about 2 minutes. Move it around your mouth, and squish it through your teeth to capture all kinds of bacteria. Then spit it out. This is a very old preventative method that will keep your teeth, gum, tongue, and the lining of your inner mouth healthy. Try to incorporate this method into your daily morning routine whilst getting dressed.

Release tension in the neck area:

Many people hold a lot of tension in the neck. Don’t wait until you are very rigid, prevent this with relaxing exercises and an occasional massage. If you have persistent headaches visit a cranial osteopath. A simple alignment of your neck and spine can have real health benefits (and I am talking here from experience!)
