Keeping fit and healthy from head to toe – Voice, throat, nose, mouth and neck

Today’s highlighted body regions are the throat, nose, mouth, neck, voice, and sinuses. Pay extra attention to these regions, exercise them, and look after them! Below you find some tips and recipes.
But before here is some information about the historical context of ‘body regions’.
The system of the ‘body regions’
For thousands of years, physicians and healers believed that the gravitational forces of the moon and wider cosmos influenced different regions of the body as the lunar cycle progressed. Across many traditional teachings, it was understood that throughout each moon cycle, our energetic focus travels through the body from head to toe.
While this concept is more folkloric than medically proven, it offers a holistic time scale to care for ourselves. Whenever you see the relevant symbol, bring awareness to this region and create a rhythm of conscious self-care. This will, over time, support balance, well-being, and a deeper connection to our body.
Please remember this cycle is intended for general awareness, gentle exercise, prevention, and well-being. It is not a substitute for medical treatment or emergency care. Any health concerns or medical needs should always be guided by a qualified healthcare professional!
However, as Benjamin Franklin wisely wrote in 1736, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” These symbols serve as a gentle reminder to look after your body with regular movement, strengthening exercises, nourishment, and supportive routines — helping you stay healthy and more resilient, and more in tune with yourself. A consistent 15-minute daily program can, over time, have enormous health benefits.
What to do when you lose your voice?
Have you ever lost your voice? It is not pleasant and sometimes a bit embarrassing. But if you are a public speaker, actor, teacher, presenter, or anybody else working with their voice, it is particularly impactful. Here is my grandmother’s top tip for regaining your voice in a short space of time. I have done this myself and it works pretty swiftly. Or use it as a course of prevention if you have a presentation or anything customer-facing coming up when communicating is vital.
Gargle with lukewarm sage tea (2 tea bags for a cup of tea, cool to as warm as you can tolerate) can help to keep your voice in good shape and bring it back to life if it is gone. You mustn’t swallow the warm sage tea, but once you gargle a few times until the tea gets cold, please spit it out. This will get rid of mucus and toxins and will bring back the voice if you are hoarse or lost it altogether. If you absolutely can’t stand the smell or taste of sage, an inferior alternative is to gargle with salt water. Personally, I go for sage tea any time!
Oil pulling to prevent disease and keep your mouth healthy
For this method take a tablespoon full of coconut oil or any other good quality oil like linseed, avocado or olive oil and keep it in your mouth for about 2 minutes. Move it around your mouth, and squish it through your teeth to capture all kinds of bacteria. Then spit it out. This is a very old preventative method that will keep your teeth, gum, tongue, and the lining of your inner mouth healthy. Try to incorporate this method into your daily morning routine whilst getting dressed.
Release tension in the neck area:
Many people hold a lot of tension in their necks. Don’t wait until you are very rigid, but prevent this with relaxing exercises and an occasional massage. If you have persistent headaches visit a cranial osteopath. A simple alignment of your neck and spine can have real health benefits (and I am talking here from experience!)
